The PNG format has clear advantages compared to JPEG: smaller files can be compressed without any loss. Nowadays both formats can be read by every common internet browser.
Performance differences are shown in the figure below. The size of the PNG and JPEG files amounts 15 and 24 KB respectively. The drawbacks of the JPEG compression are here visible due to the 160% contrast and 40% brightness compared to the original file.
